My own personal theory behind Circe's enmity towards Diana is this...Centuries agone, Circe and Hippolyte were lovers but their affair ended quite badly with Circe blaming Hippolyte for the demise of the relationship. Later on, in the 1940's Circe learned Hippolyte had a daughter, Diana, who bore a striking resemblance to her mother, to the extent the two could and were confused for one another. Circe then formulated a plan wherein she would sexually seduce and ultimately corrupt Diana, turning Wonder Woman against her Amazon sisters as well as the JSA/JLA. Well, what do y'all think?
